It was a day to remember at Plain Ham as the club welcomed a very special visitor alongside the team from Marks & Spencer as part of their inspiring “Eat Well, Play Well” campaign. Under bright blue skies and glorious sunshine, the club’s Under 10s were treated to an unforgettable session that combined football, fun, and healthy living.
The highlight of the day was the arrival of former England striker Peter Crouch, who brought plenty of smiles (and a bit of surprise!) to the pitch. Before the young players arrived, M&S’s nutritionist was chatting about the club and its community spirit, to Doreen. A familiar face to many from the Snack Shack, Doreen generously gives up her time to cook for match days. Mid-conversation, Peter cheekily snuck up creating a moment of laughter that set the tone for the afternoon.
When the Under 10s arrived for training, their disbelief quickly turned into excitement as they realised who was standing in front of them. Peter was fantastic with the children, happily joining in for a kickabout and sharing a few light-hearted moments that they won’t soon forget.
After the football fun, the focus shifted to nutrition. Doreen and M&S teamed up to make delicious, healthy post-match smoothies—learning how good food can fuel performance and recovery. Of course, Peter was on hand again, helping to serve up the drinks and keep spirits high.
The initiative is part of M&S’s wider effort to visit grassroots clubs across the country, encouraging young footballers to build healthy habits both on and off the pitch. For everyone at Larkhall Athletic, it was a truly special day—full of sunshine, community spirit, and memories that will last a long time.
